A fantastic opportunity for a Director of Infrastructure to join a  leading Lloyd’s / London Market insurer and be responsible for developing the IT strategy and solution recommendations for infrastructure operations including: server systems, enterprise data storage, backup, networking, desktop systems, telecommunications and other core IT Services.  This includes responsibility for the availability, security and reliability of all infrastructure hardware and software. 

This role is also responsible for Service Delivery, including Service Desk operations, Desktop Support, “Change, Release, Incident and Problem Management” and related projects.  Key aspects of this include driving service automation and improvement, and the implementation of DevOps and release automation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver Infrastructure services to IT product teams (compute, storage & networking, Office 365).
  • Maintain, enhance and deliver desktop engineering services across all countries of operation (PC, VDI, Citrix, security etc.).
  • Provide leadership, ownership, and accountability for the Infrastructure and Service Delivery functions ensuring that the required operating models (such as ITIL and POIT) are implemented and continually improved upon.
  • Ensure a very high-level of stability and consistency from the International infrastructure and end-user estate.
  • Keeps abreast of new technologies, seeking opportunities to improve network and operating system performance, increasing service levels and reducing operating expenses.  Determines when new technologies are reliable enough to be considerate implementation candidates.
  • Responsible for the management of the Infrastructure and Service Delivery function including staff development through the performance management process, training, motivation, and workload planning, welfare, monitoring and quality assurance.

Maintain 24x7 availability for any critical issues requiring escalation.

Essential Skills / Experience

  • Extensive knowledge of technology solutions, including concepts, practices, methods and techniques in communications networking computer operations, data processing and system maintenance.
    • Strong infrastructure engineering skills in cloud
    • Strong desktop engineering skills for 500 to 1000 or more organisations
    • Strong vendor and service management skills
  • Good financial business acumen.
  • Strategic problem solving, analytical and decision- making ability.
  • Effective communication, interpersonal and collaborative skills to negotiate and reach agreement/consensus.

ITIL certified with a clear vision on how service desk processes and technologies (such as Service Now and DevOps tools) should work and can be optimised.
